Course overview

Duration 6 months training

The managed learning programme is for candidates looking to get into the gas industry, and you could become a gas engineer in 6 months.

There are over 23 million gas customers in the UK who all have something in common, they all have gas appliances that will need maintenance, repair or replacement, which can only be done by Gas Safe registered engineers. It has been highlighted in a Gas Safe decade review that there is currently an ageing workforce in the gas industry, with half retiring in the next 10 years. It has now become apparent that this gap will not be met by apprenticeships alone.

There are a number of packages that the Energy Academy are able to offer, and this will be down to experience and knowledge as you may be able to transfer some of your existing skills known as RPL (recognition of prior learning). This could include criteria such as manual handling or asbestos awareness for example. We have put together some frequently asked questions which you can view here.

How You'll Learn

During each step of your in-house training, you will carry out mock assessments that will allow staff to monitor your progress throughout your journey. These assessments will also help you with the theory and assessment papers that you will need to complete at the end of the course.

Once your initial training is complete, you will then be required to complete an on-site portfolio, which will need to be signed by a Gas Safe registered engineer. This is know as a supervised work placement.

Once your portfolio is complete and signed off by our IQA (internal quality assurance) team, then you will be invited to sit your ACS exams, which, once completed, will allow you to register with Gas Safe either under your own registration or your company’s.

The Energy Academy has state-of-the-art training facilities and excellent trainers that will be there to assist and guide you along every step of the way.

Work Placement

As part of the course, you are required to complete a portfolio, which needs to be completed with a Gas Safe registered engineer. This is known as a supervised work placement.

Ideally, you should enrol on this course already having secured a placement with an engineer.

We will help you find a work placement, but spaces are limited and there may be an additional fee for the placement.

Pre-requisites

Prior to enrolling on the course, there will be an initial assessment that will allow us to assess your suitability for the course. It also gives you a greater understanding of the requirements of the programme.

There is no charge for the initial assessment, so please contact us to arrange an appointment to discuss your options and outcomes.

Costs

The cost of the course is from £3250 + VAT (depending on experience).

This price is inclusive of all training material, training, assessment and certification fees.

Upon completion of the training and portfolio, you will receive a MLP certificate, which will then enable you to sit the ACS assessments which includes 2 – 3 days refresher training, and then 3 days of assessment in our training centre. Once your assessment paperwork has been sent off to Logic Certification, you will then be able to register with Gas Safe either under your company’s registration or as a new company in your own right.
