Thinking about starting a career in the gas industry? Become a fully qualified gas engineer within 6 months. You don’t need any prior qualifications just a good understanding of maths and English.
There are over 23 million gas customers in the UK who all have something in common, they all have gas appliances that will need maintenance, repair or replacement, which can only be done by Gas Safe registered engineers. It has been highlighted in a Gas Safe decade review that there is currently an ageing workforce in the gas industry, with half retiring in the next 10 years. It has now become apparent that this gap will not be met by apprenticeships alone.
There are a number of packages that the Energy Academy are able to offer, and this will be down to experience and knowledge as you may be able to transfer some of your existing skills known as RPL (recognition of prior learning). This could include criteria such as manual handling or asbestos awareness for example. We have put together some frequently asked questions which you can view here.
Are you already a gas engineer and looking to expand your knowledge and client base? Perhaps venturing into commercial heating is where you want to be?

Your business may benefit from you having the hot water systems and safety certificate. It is recognised by the Competent Person Schemes (CPS)-approved to offer a self-certification scheme under ADG, enabling installers of hot water systems (including Unvented HWS) to self-certify the installation. A certificate in Hot Water Systems and Safety is also required by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) registration bodies, for those looking to be recognised for the installation of solar thermal hot water systems course.
