As we bid farewell to 2023, we invite you to unwrap the gift of knowledge with our 12 days of courses where we aim to look at some of the incredible courses we offer in more depth. Whether you’re looking to upgrade your current skills or make a New Year’s resolution to learn something new, we have many different courses available to suit you.

Course 1 – Gas Safety CCN1 and Appliance Course – Initial & reassessment

The CCN1 certification is required for any operative wishing to work on domestic gas installations and appliances. CCN1 and any associated appliances are required to be re-sat every 5 years. For an initial CCN1 assessment, candidates must meet entry requirements of which details can be provided upon request, as there are many entry routes into this course. For the reassessment, candidates must have held the certification previously.

Course 2 – Gas Safety Domestic Appliances

This course provides training (if requested) and assessment on the installation and maintenance of domestic gas fired appliances. Operatives must hold the relevant appliance qualification, be able to carry out any work on that appliance and a current CCN1 qualification. This certification is valid for 5 years before needing reassessment.

Course 3 – LPG Changeover Package

CCN1 and the associated appliance codes are required for any operative wishing to work on Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) installations and appliances. In addition, candidates must hold the relevant appliance element for the work they wish to undertake. This course includes Permanent Dwellings and optional elements, which are Residential Park Homes, Leisure Accommodation Vehicles and Boats. This course expires after 5 years but can be re-assessed on any element up to 6 months early before expiration (MOT style).

Course 4 – Managed Learning Programme (MLP)

This programme is for candidates looking to get into the gas industry, where you could become a gas engineer in as little as 6 months! As part of the course, you will be required to complete a portfolio, which needs to be completed with a Gas Safe registered engineer. This is known as a supervised work placement. There is no need to have any prior qualifications to applying for this course – the only thing expected is a good understanding of maths and English.

Course 5 – Commercial Gas Safety

The commercial gas modules are designed for experienced engineers looking to either renew their existing qualifications or extend their skills to different areas in the commercial sector. The modules available include Commercial Pipework, Radiant Tube & Plaque Heaters, Indirect Fired Gas Appliances, Direct Fired Gas Appliances and Testing & Purging <1m3 Volume.

Course 6 – Commercial Changeover Package

This course is for engineers who already have domestic natural gas qualifications and are looking to expand their skills and do a changeover to commercial natural gas. This qualification is valid for up to 5 years and previous certificates must be produced at the time of assessment as evidence.

Course 7 – Hot Water Systems & Safety

The Hot Water Systems and Safety certificate is recognised by the Competent Person Schemes (CPS)-approved to offer a self-certification scheme under ADG, enabling installers of hot water systems (including Unvented HWS) to self-certify the installation. An extra certification is also required by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) registration bodies for those looking to be recognised for the installation of Solar Thermal Hot Water Systems.

Course 8 – Water Regulations

This WRAS training covers the Water Regulations (1999) and is a mandatory certification for qualified plumbers (minimum Level 2) who are looking to join their local water authorities, Water Industry Approved Plumber Scheme, one of the plumbing competent person schemes (CPS) and Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) registration bodies. The course price includes a comprehensive guide, workbook, all training equipment, training, assessment, and certification.

Course 9 – OFTEC Oil

OFT10-101 is required for any operative wishing to carry out work on domestic jet pressure appliances. In addition, operatives must hold the relevant tank installation and installation elements applicable to the work they wish to undertake. Different Technical Books are required for the assessment, depending on which OFTEC modules they are studying.

Course 10 – BS7671:2018 - 18th Edition Electrical Course

This regulated RQF qualification in the requirements of electrical installations has been designed to allow learners to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations. This qualification (or similar) may be required for operatives wishing to join some Electrical Regulation Bodies, Competent Person Schemes, or the Microgeneration Scheme.

Course 11 – Domestic Electrical Installer (Part P)

The Domestic Electrical Installer course is a course designed for installers who carry out some electrical work, mainly as a secondary role. If you are a tradesperson that requires electrical work to be carried out as part of your job such as wiring a boiler, shower, or cooker, then you may have to sub this work out to other tradesmen costing time and money on the job for you. With the DEI and 18th Edition Regulations qualifications you will gain the skills and knowledge so you can safety complete these tasks yourself.

Course 12 – Air Source Heat Pumps

This LCL Awards Level 3 in Installation and Maintenance of Air Source Heat Pumps (non-refrigerant Circuits) 601/2504/4 is for engineers wishing to upskill their existing qualifications to install and maintain heat pumps. The qualification is valid for 5 years from assessment.
